The Green Tour programme, created by Italy’s Ministry of Tourism with €109 million, has received 266 applications from accommodation businesses, the ministry announced on 19 October.

The scheme supports the ecological transition, innovation and renovation of establishments: building works and structural improvements, digitalisation, energy efficiency and investments that raise the quality of accommodation.

Of the applications, 107 come from small businesses, 56 from medium-sized ones, 28 from large companies and 75 from other smaller firms. Small businesses rooted in their local areas make up about two-thirds of the total.

Tourism Minister Gianmarco Mazzi called the uptake an “extraordinary response” that shows the vitality of Italy’s tourism sector.
