The European Union has opened a new round of DiscoverEU, offering 40,000 travel passes to young people born in 2008, according to the European Youth Portal. The programme is part of Erasmus+.

Applications ran from 1 to 15 October 2026. Citizens or residents of EU Member States and of Erasmus+ associated countries such as Iceland, Norway, Serbia and Türkiye were eligible.

Those selected can travel, mainly by train, for 1 to 30 days between 1 March 2027 and 31 May 2028. They can go alone or with up to four friends, as long as everyone meets the criteria.

The application includes a five-question multiple-choice quiz on the EU. Support is available for participants with a disability or health condition that makes travel harder.
