Italy and Poland signed a memorandum in Rimini on 15 October to create the John Paul II Way, a new cultural route dedicated to places linked to Karol Wojtyła, the Italian Ministry of Tourism has announced.

The initial plan is to link Kraków and Rome, and other places from the pope’s life may be added. The memorandum was signed by Italy’s Tourism Minister, Gianmarco Mazzi, and Poland’s Secretary of State for Sport and Tourism, Ireneusz Raś.

Four universities will help design the route: the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków, the Catholic University of Lublin, the Angelicum in Rome and the Catholic University of Milan.

The aim is to promote Europe’s cultural and spiritual heritage and boost cultural tourism. The partnership is open to other countries; the route’s length and stages have not yet been set.
