The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ), Sri Lanka, held an all-night “Pirith” Buddhist chanting ceremony on 20 and 21 October, followed by a “Sanghika Dana”, an alms-giving to the monks.

The monks were welcomed at the university entrance and escorted in a traditional procession to the Sri Wimaladharma Mandiraya, where chanting began at 9 pm to invoke blessings on the building and the faculty’s activities.

The next morning the ceremony ended with alms offered to 40 Buddhist monks, attended by the Vice-Chancellor, deans, staff and students.
