The Catholic Church marked the 100th World Mission Sunday on 18 October 2026, a day established by Pope Pius XI a century ago. To mark the occasion, Pope Leo XIV recorded a video message published by the Holy See, on the theme «One in Christ, United in Mission».

According to the message, Pius XI created the day to deepen understanding of the mission, encourage prayer for evangelisation, and support missionary vocations and the Pontifical Mission Societies. The Pope said the prayers of the faithful helped him in his own vocation as an Augustinian missionary and in his work in Peru.

Leo XIV recalled that through Baptism each person has a particular role in the Church, and asked everyone to contribute to the mission according to their gifts, especially for the poorest. He closed by thanking all who, over a century, have supported World Mission Sunday.
