Four Icelandic universities – the University of Akureyri, the University of Iceland, the University of Iceland at Hólar and the Agricultural University of Iceland – have completed the two-year project “Inclusion in the Icelandic University Community”, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.
The project created a shared knowledge base and practical tools: an inclusion policy, an action plan, a reception plan, educational materials and a framework for mentoring and peer support.
Its main conclusion is that inclusion must be part of how universities work every day, rather than relying on short-term projects. Students with foreign backgrounds face barriers beyond language, such as access to information and social participation. The free final conference takes place on 5 November at the Nordic House in Reykjavík.
