The European Union has opened a new round of applications for DiscoverEU, which will hand out more than 40,000 free travel passes to young Europeans. Applications can be submitted until midday (Brussels time) on 15 October 2026, on the youth.europa.eu portal.

Young people born between 1 January and 31 December 2008 who are citizens or residents of the EU, of associated overseas countries and territories, or of third countries associated with the Erasmus+ programme, such as Iceland and Turkey, are eligible. It is possible to apply as a group with friends.

The pass favours the most environmentally friendly means of transport, such as the train, and allows travel for up to seven days within a one-month period, between 1 March 2027 and 31 May 2028. Some participants also receive a discount card for accommodation, culture, sport and local transport.

The programme also offers a Cultural Route of European destinations, highlighting Cork, in Ireland, and Valletta, in Malta, as European Capitals of Culture, and Lyon, in France, for its accessibility.
