The coastal city of Ostend will host the second edition of ‘Lichtgolf’ (Light Wave), a winter walk featuring light installations. The first edition attracted 25,000 visitors. The four-kilometre route crosses the city centre and passes seven installations.
This year’s story follows Noxi, a young ‘sea sparkle’ who comes ashore in Ostend for the first time, and Sola, a 101-year-old sea sparkle who shows her the city. The voices are provided by actors Wim Opbrouck and Sien Eggers. Returning venues include the Kursaal and St Peter and St Paul’s Church, and there is a new installation in the station concourse, created with the NMBS rail company, featuring 100 deckchairs in the ticket hall.
The organisers say they have improved aspects criticised last year, such as the link between the story and the installations and the synchronisation of sound and light. The walk runs from 27 November to 3 January, with tickets costing 8 euros, or 5 euros if bought before 16 November, on sale through the Ostend Tourism website.
