Nepal’s National Centre for AIDS and STD Control brought together government officials, UN agencies, partners and key population networks to validate the draft National HIV Strategic Plan 2026–2031. The World Health Organization reported on the meeting on 14 October.

The draft builds on a review of the previous 2021–2026 plan and on subnational consultations held from January to September 2026. It proposes actions across eight result areas, and participants made recommendations on the changing epidemic, the needs of affected populations, human rights, equity and sustainable financing.

The plan is aligned with the Global AIDS Strategy 2026–2031 and WHO’s strategies on HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs. Once finalised it will guide Nepal’s national HIV response until 2031, with support from WHO, UNAIDS, UNDP, the Global Fund and civil society.
