Kigali hosted the 5th Africa HealthTech Summit from 30 September to 2 October 2026, under the theme «Wellness for All, Powered by Intelligent Health Systems», Rwanda’s Ministry of Health announced. More than 4,000 policymakers, health professionals, innovators, investors and partners from across the continent were expected.
The aim is to use technology to prevent disease, empower health workers, improve access to quality care and move from talk to practical implementation. The programme included 104 sessions, 13 site visits, investor meetings and 75 opportunities to connect innovations with partners, funding and health-system leaders.
Opening the summit, Minister of State for Health Yvan Butera said technology is helping health workers spot pregnancy risks earlier and get mothers timely care, which has helped reduce preventable maternal deaths in Rwanda. The summit began in 2022 as a side event with about 600 participants and now has a community of more than 5,600 people.
The ministry did not announce specific agreements or tools coming out of this edition. The summit presents itself as a meeting point for countries to share experience, showcase solutions and build partnerships.
