El Salvador’s Ministry of Health has opened the Specialised Centre for Non-Communicable Diseases (CENT), which will serve patients from the department of San Salvador. The total investment was 12.6 million dollars.

The centre has specialists in internal medicine, gynaecology, colposcopy, breast care, mental health and nutrition, along with a clinical laboratory, diagnostic imaging, a specialised pharmacy and a pathology laboratory. More specialties are planned.

It will follow up the most common non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, several cancers (breast, cervical, prostate and colon), overweight and obesity, kidney disease, high cholesterol and mental health disorders.
