FAPESP has signed a new agreement with Aura, a US consortium of universities and research institutions, widening São Paulo scientists’ access to data from the Vera Rubin Observatory on Cerro Pachón, in the Chilean Andes.

The foundation will be able to nominate 10 principal investigators, each with up to five early-career scientists, for a total of up to 60 people with full data access. The LSST survey will scan the southern sky for ten years and is expected to catalogue more than 20 billion galaxies and 17 billion stars.

Brazil’s main contribution was already in place: FAPESP’s Rednesp network carries the observatory’s data from Chile to processing centres in the United States.
