Turkey’s combined solar and wind generation reached a record 9.9 billion kilowatt-hours in August, according to the Energy Ministry. Solar produced 5.16 billion kWh (14.1 per cent of the total) and wind 4.74 billion (12.9 per cent).
Including hydropower, still the largest source, renewables accounted for 56.4 per cent of all electricity generated that month. From January to August, hydro, wind and solar all recorded their highest output for that period since 2000.
In the first eight months of the year, renewables generated 149.8 billion kWh, 60.3 per cent of the total, also the highest since 2000. Turkey will host the COP31 climate summit in Antalya in November.
