The IT Diversity Programme of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) won the national Education Achievement of the Year award from Estonia’s Ministry of Education and Research. Sirja Sulakatko and Birgy Lorenz accepted the award at the Teacher of the Year Gala in Tartu on 10 October.
The programme makes technology education and IT careers accessible to people from diverse backgrounds. More than 700 people have retrained through it and over 500 have moved into the IT sector. It has also reached hundreds of teachers and thousands of school students.
“Estonia needs people with diverse experiences” to advance technology, said Dean Gert Jervan. The long-term goal is to reduce gender and social inequalities in the digital sector.
