A study by the Argentine Centre of Engineers (CAI) shows that, excluding four agriculture-related degrees, the number of new engineers rose from 6,983 in 2023 to 7,594 in 2024, the highest in the series and an increase of 8.75 per cent. Counting all degrees, 8,759 engineers graduated.
Enrolment also grew: 64,307 students started engineering degrees in 2024, 71.7 per cent more than in 2007, at a time when overall university enrolment is falling. Women have doubled their enrolment in 20 years and now make up 31.2 per cent of new students and 28 per cent of graduates.
In food, environmental, natural resources and chemical engineering, women are already the majority of graduates. Even so, 87 per cent of companies surveyed believe there will be a shortage of engineers in the next three to five years, especially in construction and industry.
