El Sunzal beach in El Salvador hosts the International Surfing Association (ISA) 2026 World Longboard Championship from 17 October, the year’s top event in long-board surfing.

More than a hundred surfers from several continents will compete, including the Salvadoran team led by the experienced Amado de Jesús Alvarado, who is both athlete and host.

The event is a qualifier for the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima. At the presentation, ISA official Robert Fasulo said efforts had been made to include longboarding at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and that the goal is now Brisbane 2032.

Tourism Minister Morena Valdez and the president of the Salvadoran surf federation, Luis Fuentes, stressed the importance of the championship for the country’s sports tourism.
