American athlete Masai Russell, the reigning Olympic champion, set a new women’s 100m hurdles world record of 12.09 seconds at the Zurich Diamond League meeting at the Letzigrund stadium. The time improved by three hundredths on the previous mark, held since 2022 by Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan.

It also beat the US record that Russell herself had set in May, with 12.14 seconds, at the Xiamen Diamond League. USA Track & Field named her athlete of the week, for the second time this year.

With this victory, Russell extended her unbeaten run this season to ten races and her Diamond League wins to six. She now holds four of the ten fastest times ever in the event.
