Leander Kandilige, Professor of Migration and Development at the University of Ghana’s Centre for Migration Studies, has been named Vice-President (Africa) of the International Panel on Migration (IPM). He will sit on the panel’s bureau and support the visibility of African research in its work.

The IPM is an independent, interdisciplinary, permanent scientific body that brings together social science research on migration and communicates it to policymakers, journalists, civil society and the public. It is modelled on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Kandilige studied at the universities of Oxford, Southampton and Ghana, has worked on projects for organisations such as the African Union, the International Labour Organization, the OECD and the International Organization for Migration, and helped develop Ghana’s Diaspora Engagement Policy.
