Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Food Safety and the World Health Organization marked World Rabies Day 2026 at the Department of Health Services under the theme “Stronger Together”. WHO reported on the event on 28 September.

The goal is zero human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030 through a One Health approach linking human, animal and environmental health. Priorities include fair access to post-exposure treatment, sustained dog vaccination, community engagement and the endorsement of the National Rabies Strategy and Action Plan 2026–2030.

Participants discussed integrated bite case management at national and local levels, with information sharing across sectors, animal assessment and rational use of preventive treatment. WHO reaffirmed its support for the government in eliminating rabies as a public health problem.
