EPFL has launched an emissions calculator designed specifically for research laboratories, facilities that can use between three and ten times more energy than offices of the same size.

The tool imports data on floor area, purchases and energy use and combines it with information on travel, equipment and cloud computing services. The result lets labs compare emission sources, choose the most effective measures and track progress over the years. The software is open source and was designed so that other universities can adopt it.
