The new building of the Institute of Allergology and Immunology at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) in Sri Lanka has received GREENSL Platinum Certification, the highest level awarded by the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka. It is the university’s first Platinum award for a building.

The award was received by Acting Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, institute director Professor Chandima Jeewandara and the university’s management at the Green Building Awards ceremony.

The building reused materials from the previous structure, harvests rainwater, uses treated wastewater for gardening, produces solar energy and follows net-zero design principles. A greenhouse-inspired link bridge connects it to another department and reduces reliance on lifts.
