The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) welcomed 13 doctoral researchers in Windhoek on 22 October as the second cohort of the SASSCAL Graduate Studies Programme in Integrated Water Resources Management.

The researchers come from Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia. The region shares 15 river basins, which calls for cross-border cooperation. Proposed projects include AI-based weather forecasting, low-cost wastewater treatment and the impact of hydropower on river ecosystems.

SASSCAL Executive Director Prof. Nelago Indongo called water security one of the defining developmental challenges. The programme also offers international scientific mobility with a research centre in Germany.
