IPB University in Indonesia marked one hundred years since the discovery of Newcastle disease, one of the main diseases of farmed poultry, with an online seminar on 27 October.
One of the strategies discussed was developing homologous vaccines made from viruses isolated in the country itself. According to the university, this approach could better protect birds against the viruses circulating in the field.
The event brought together researchers, government officials and poultry industry representatives, who called for more cross-sector collaboration to make disease control more effective and poultry farming more sustainable.
