The World Health Organization’s country office in Nepal handed 354 tablets and a high-capacity server to the Ministry of Health and Food Safety on 5 October. The equipment was funded with support from the Pandemic Fund.

The tablets will be used by municipal and district officials for disease surveillance, data reporting and outbreak response, helping them detect and investigate outbreaks in real time. The server will host SORMAS and handle more users and data as the system expands to communities and local governments.

SORMAS is an open-source digital platform that brings reports from health facilities, communities and other surveillance sources into one system. Its rollout is led by the ministry’s Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, with technical support from WHO and partners.
