The 27th Croatian Terry Fox Run, held on 20 September at Lake Jarun in Zagreb, raised more than €19,000, according to organisers’ estimates. Thousands of people of all ages took part running, walking, cycling and rollerblading.
The money will support the Laboratory for Hereditary Cancer at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, led by Petar Ozretić, which is working on new models for earlier detection of lobular breast cancer and new treatment approaches. The event was organised by the Croatian League Against Cancer, the Embassy of Canada and the company MPG, with the City of Zagreb.
Croatia joined the Marathon of Hope 27 years ago and has since raised more than €1 million for cancer treatment and research. The run honours Terry Fox, the young Canadian who in 1980 covered 5,373 km across Canada to raise money for cancer research.
