Uruguay’s University of the Republic (Udelar) launched “From Cerro to Bella Unión: let’s talk about mental health” on 26 October, a series of training sessions and discussions that will travel across the country.

The initiative is based on the ECHO programme, which connects university specialists with health teams through teleclinics so that specialist knowledge reaches every corner of the country. Over 12 years, more than 13,000 health professionals in Uruguay and another 1,200 in more than 20 countries across the Americas have taken part.

ECHO Uruguay director Henry Cohen said the project rests on two principles: everyone has the same right to health wherever they live, and health workers have the right to free access to the knowledge they need to care for patients.
