The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) presented the first nationwide study on maternal mental health in Cyprus, carried out under the Mind the Mum project. Co-funded by the EU through EU4Health, the project runs from 2024 to 2027 and collects data in Cyprus and Slovenia.

On 14–15 October, around 80 health professionals, including midwives, nurses, health visitors and psychologists, attended a conference and training in Nicosia, organised with the Pancyprian Nurses and Midwives Association and the Ministry of Health’s National Breastfeeding Committee.

The study, based on questionnaires from 474 new mothers, found that half report symptoms that deserve follow-up. Coordinator Dr Eleni Hadjigeorgiou, Associate Professor of Midwifery, and the speakers called for systematic screening and early support. A final conference is planned for 10 June 2027.
