Researcher Chantal Huisman defended a thesis on 19 October at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands on sleep and technology for people with dementia living at home.

The work found that disturbed sleep can often be improved with tailored, non-medication support, which also benefits informal caregivers. In a five-week study, participants used aids such as weighted blankets, a breathing robot and a planning app.

“A better night starts with the person, not the technology,” the author sums up. Chantal Huisman will continue the DREAM study and take up a Dementia Fellow position from January.
