Tamás Haidegger, a professor at Óbuda University in Budapest, received the Academy-Patent Excellence Award on 3 November at the opening of the Hungarian Science Festival.

The award is presented jointly by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office. It was created in 1997 to honour research, invention and the practical use of scientific results.

Haidegger leads medical robotics research at a university centre. The award recognises his work in medical robotics, digital surgery, AI-supported patient safety and objective quality control of hand hygiene, and the way he links research with patent protection and practical use.
