Three Product Design students from ESPOL’s Faculty of Art, Design and Communication in Ecuador, Jeffersson Zambrano, Ariana Lozada and Belén Villagómez, won in the Product Design (Concept/Prototype) category, student division, at the Latin American Design Awards (LAD Awards) 2026. The win was announced on 12 October.

The two winning projects are HOLDI, a portable, adjustable accessory that clips onto bus handrails to help shorter people reach them, and LÜMIA, a modular organiser of four geometric pieces made from materials such as ceramic and wood.

Both began as coursework and were refined independently after the classes ended. LÜMIA entered through the special LAD GRANT 100 call, created for the contest’s tenth anniversary.
