Portugal and China will resume negotiations in 2027 on a new agreement for the mutual recognition of higher education degrees and diplomas, replacing the 2005 agreement and strengthening academic exchange between the two countries, the Portuguese Government announced.

The decision was taken at the first meeting of the Portugal-China Working Group on Education in Beijing. Portugal’s Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, met China’s Education Minister, Huai Jinpeng, on 15 October in Tianjin.

The two countries also agreed to prepare a Joint Action Plan for Higher Education 2027–2030. China’s priorities include dialogue between universities in both countries and the joint training of top engineers.
