Italy’s Jonathan Milan set a new world record in the men’s individual pursuit at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships, held from 14 to 18 October at the Shanghai Velodrome. He clocked 3:58.850 in qualifying, an average of 60.289 km/h, before beating Denmark’s Frederik Madsen in the final.

It was the first Track Worlds held in mainland China. Riders from 14 nations reached the podium across the 22 events.

Great Britain topped the medal table with six titles, three of them won by Welsh rider Anna Morris. Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen also won three events, taking his tally to 23 world titles. China won the women’s individual and team sprints, titles it had not won for a decade or more.
