Two doctoral students from the University of Porto’s Faculty of Sport (FADEUP) won awards at the 49th Technical-Scientific Congress of the Portuguese Association of Swimming Coaches (APTN), held on 17 and 18 October in Tomar.
Victor Hugo V. Carrijo took first place in Fitness and Aquatic Therapy with a study on how a water exercise programme affects blood glucose and circulation in older adults with several chronic conditions.
Francisco A. Ferreira came second in Sports Training and Performance with research on whether a training macrocycle reduces fatigue caused by high-intensity sessions in young swimmers.
Both studies show how sports science research can help the health of older people as well as the training of young athletes.
