Scholars at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan took part in the new seven-volume academic series History of Kazakhstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day, a project started in 2021.

Assistant Professor Mikhail Akulov sat on the main editorial board and edited Volume Six, which covers 1917 to 1991. That volume drew on 74 researchers, 17 of them international, and on materials from 81 archives in ten countries.

Four faculty members and seven doctoral students from the university’s Eurasian Studies programme also took part. Akulov co-wrote the volume’s introduction and two texts, on 20th-century economics and on historiography.
