Writer Guy Helminger has received the 2026 Lëtzebuerger Literaturpräis Batty Weber, presented by Culture Minister Eric Thill at a ceremony at the Centre national de littérature in Mersch. The prize honours his body of work.
Born in 1963 in Esch-sur-Alzette and now living in Cologne, Germany, Helminger writes full time. His work includes poetry, novels, short stories, plays, radio plays and screenplays, and has earned him, among other honours, the Prix Servais twice.
In his speech, the minister highlighted the author’s singular voice and the way his writing tackles the conflicts of our time without offering simplistic answers. Helminger is also an active presence on the Luxembourg literary scene as a moderator and cultural mediator.
Created in 1987, the prize is awarded every three years to a Luxembourgish writer and is worth €10,000. The seven-member jury was chaired by Nathalie Jacoby, director of the Centre national de littérature.
