The association Luxembourg Transplant is holding the 17th edition of its indoor cycling event, this time aiming to set a world record that is expected to be recognised by Guinness World Records. Around 1,500 cyclists are expected in hall 7 of Luxexpo The Box, in Kirchberg, between 10:15 and 18:15.

The initiative marks World Organ Donation Day on 17 October and aims to highlight the importance of donating. According to the figures cited, in 2025 Luxembourg recorded only two donors, compared with seven in each of the two previous years, and 43 residents received an organ in clinics abroad.

Health Minister Martine Deprez noted that a donation offers a second chance and can give many people back their independence and mobility. The sports and family ministers were also expected at the event.

In Luxembourg, everyone is considered a potential donor unless they have registered their objection during their lifetime. That decision can be recorded in the shared medical file, which doctors must consult before any organ retrieval.
