The University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago unveiled on 13 October the vision for its One Health Molecular Epidemiology and Genomics Centre (EDGe), to help the Caribbean detect and respond to emerging disease threats.

The centre is part of the TT ONE LAB+ project, funded by the Pandemic Fund and led by the Ministry of Health, with the Ministry of Agriculture and the university, and the Pan American Health Organization as implementing entity.

Director Professor Christine Carrington outlined three pillars: research, training and genomic sequencing services. The training fellowship has already started with nine professionals, and the upgraded laboratories are expected to open in 2028.
