Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan hosted the first International Conference on Resilient Infrastructure and Safety Engineering (RISE2026) on 14–15 October, organised with the China Civil Engineering Society.

The meeting brought together researchers, engineers and companies to discuss how roads, railways, water supply and sewage systems can withstand droughts, storms and other natural hazards as cities grow. Partners include Shenzhen University and Tsinghua University.

Provost Rehan Sadiq cited Astana as an example of a fast-growing city. The programme covered construction materials, transport maintenance, structural resilience and international technical standards.
