European University Cyprus launched PNOE on 2 November, the country’s first participatory epidemiological surveillance network, to track influenza, COVID-19, RSV and other respiratory infections.

Any adult living in Cyprus can take part through a free app, answering a short weekly questionnaire about symptoms, even when they are not ill. Data are anonymous and participants can withdraw at any time.

Coordinated by Associate Professor of Public Health Theodore Lytras, the network aims to understand how infections evolve, who is most affected and how well vaccines work. Results will appear on a public dashboard updated at least weekly.
