Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG) opened a Japanese Reading Garden at its Altiplano Campus in Sololá, as part of the university’s 60th anniversary and the campus’s 26th.
The garden was a joint project of the university’s innovation directorate, its library department, the Embassy of Japan in Guatemala and the Altiplano Campus. To apply for the funding, the file had to be delivered in person in Japan, and an embassy volunteer took it on a personal trip so it would arrive on time.
“A book can bring us closer to a distant culture and, at the same time, help us better understand our own community,” said Luis López, head of communications at the campus.
