Macau and Angola signed a mutual visa exemption agreement on 4 September. Once it enters into force, holders of a valid Angolan passport and Macau residents with a passport issued by the region will be able to enter the other territory without a visa and stay for up to 30 days.

Macau’s Secretary for Administration and Justice, Wong Sio Chak, said the agreement would make life easier for people, particularly in tourism, academic exchange and trade, and invited more Angolans to visit and invest in Macau.

Angola’s consul in Macau, Eduardo Velasco Galiano, said the agreement removes bureaucratic barriers that had led many business people to give up. Angola becomes the fourth Portuguese-speaking country to benefit from this arrangement, after Portugal, Brazil and Cape Verde.

The date of entry into force has not yet been set and will be announced in due course.
