The Cine Teatro Nacional in Luanda reopened on Thursday 8 October, following renovation work that began in 2024. Founded in 1932, the venue is one of the oldest in the Angolan capital.
According to the Government of Angola, the reopening was marked by a symphony concert by the national orchestra at 4 pm, open to invited guests only.
Over the following days, the programme includes the show “Canções Sobre Paz, a Mulher e o Semba” (Songs about Peace, Women and Semba), with Magda Mendes, Toty Samed, Esperança Mirakiza, Voto Gonçalves and Jay Lourenço, a performance by the dance group Kupolo Njila Akombe and the evening “Simbiose de Guitarra” (Guitar Symbiosis), with Carlos Praia, Mário Gomes, Teddy Nsingui and Dimild Tonico.
After the Cine Teatro Nacional, the Cine Tropical, another historic venue, is due to reopen in December.
