The international architecture prize Prix Versailles has published its 2026 list of the world’s most beautiful stations, with seven winners: three in Europe, two in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), one in Melbourne (Australia) and one in Los Angeles (United States).
In France, Lyon Part-Dieu station, designed by the AREP and L’AUC studios, was recognised after a decade of works that turned it into a major multimodal hub and a true community space, also used by people moving between neighbourhoods.
In Italy, Colosseo – Fori Imperiali station, on line C of the Rome metro, which opened at the end of 2025, displays archaeological finds uncovered during construction and offers a view of the Colosseum through an oculus. In Naples, Monte Sant’Angelo station, designed by the artist Anish Kapoor with the Future Systems and AL_A studios, draws inspiration from Vesuvius, a cave and the legend of the Cumaean Sibyl, and is described as a sculpture the public can walk into.
