Zayed National Museum, the national museum of the United Arab Emirates, has announced its first temporary exhibition: “Tracks Through Time: The Camel in Society, Trade and Art”. It opens in early December and is presented as the world’s first exhibition to comprehensively explore more than 7,000 years of camel history.

Exhibits include wild camel bones from Baynunah, Abu Dhabi, dating from the Neolithic (4500–4000 BCE), which will show detailed evidence of this extinct species to the public for the first time. There will also be domesticated camel bones from Saruq Al Hadid, Dubai, from the Iron Age, among the earliest evidence of domestication in the world, and rock art from Fujairah about 3,000 years old.

The exhibition includes loans from the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, as well as a rare 1840s children’s book on camel species and their uses.
