The city of Differdange has received the Fairtrade label in recognition of the mural dedicated to fair trade located next to the level crossing on Avenue Charlotte. The project was launched in 2022 and the award was granted retroactively.
The work, by the artist David Soner, is 10 metres high and depicts a coffee grower. It was created to mark the 30th anniversary of Fairtrade Luxembourg and serves as a permanent awareness-raising project about the people behind fair-trade products.
The badge was presented to the alderwoman responsible for ecology, Zenia Charlé. The municipality described the award as recognition of its long-standing commitment and said the project shows how art and civic engagement can drive change in society.
Differdange has been a “Fairtrade Gemeng” for 25 years and, in 2011, became the first commune in Luxembourg to receive that title.
