Vëlosummer, which ran from 18 July to 16 August, set a new participation record in 2026. According to the Luxembourg government, 50,161 bikes were counted on the 14 circuits on offer, an increase of 15% on the previous year.
The programme included 500 kilometres of routes, of which 100 kilometres of roads were temporarily reserved for cyclists for one or two weekends. The initiative was organised by the ministries of Mobility and Public Works and of the Economy, in collaboration with the Roads and Bridges Administration, the regional tourist offices and 52 partner communes.
The most popular circuit was “Alles op de Vëlo”, with 6,999 bikes counted on a single day, followed by the “Uewersauer-Tour” and the “Groussen Tour vum Wëlle Westen”. The number of participants who completed the challenge of riding all 14 circuits grew by more than 30%.
The Minister for Mobility, Yuriko Backes, said the result shows that cycling is becoming an increasingly common part of everyday life. The next edition is scheduled for 17 July to 22 August 2027.
