Argentine swimmer Agostina Hein had a historic week at Buenos Aires’ Olympic Park. A day after breaking a South American record, she swam the short-course 400 metres individual medley in 4:33.57, a new absolute national record.

The previous mark belonged to Georgina Bardach, Olympic bronze medallist at Athens 2004, and had stood for two decades. With it, Hein, from Campana, now holds all five absolute national records in medley events: the 200m and 400m in long course and the 100m, 200m and 400m in short course.

The feat is all the greater because Hein had been sidelined a few weeks earlier by appendicitis. She is now preparing for the Beijing 2026 World Championships, where Argentina already has a team.
