China has unveiled a prototype smart robot designed to support wheat breeding. According to the published image, the machine was developed by Shandong Agricultural University.
The robot made its public debut at a recent seminar on wheat breeding, according to the state-run China Science Daily. It draws on a vast amount of accumulated breeder experience to assess the potential of crops.
Traditionally, specialists select strains with the best traits by hand in the field, from among tens of thousands of hybrid offspring, a demanding and subjective task. The project is part of the country’s drive to advance agricultural technology and strengthen food security.
