Praia City Council (Câmara Municipal da Praia) organised first aid training for staff from various services, with the aim of strengthening their ability to respond in emergencies. Employees from tourism, youth, social services, municipal delegations and the municipal police took part.

The initiative came about through a partnership with the Praia Municipal Assembly and the Portuguese association Mais Lusofonia Castelo Branco. The trainers include technicians from INEM, Portugal’s emergency medical service, and nurses.

According to the president of Mais Lusofonia, Sofia Lourenço, the session focuses on basic first aid in the workplace, since many people struggle to act when faced with an emergency. The president of the Municipal Assembly, Clara Marques, stressed that keeping up to date in this area is always necessary.

The association, which has been present in Cape Verde for more than five years, brought a container with seven tonnes of supplies on this visit to distribute to various institutions, and also held training sessions at other organisations, such as Fazenda Esperança.
