Secondary school girls and women teachers from state public schools across Brazil can apply, until 26 October, for an immersion in the country’s leading laboratories and science and technology centres. The initiative is part of the Futuras Cientistas (Future Scientists) programme, linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Participation is free and there are 470 places: 320 for students in the 2nd year of ensino médio (upper secondary school) and 150 for women teachers in the state public school system. Applicants can choose from 114 projects spread across every region of the country, 20 of them in remote format.

The main aim is to promote gender equality and encourage women to train in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The call reserves places for Black, pardo (mixed-race), Indigenous and quilombola candidates, for people with disabilities and for trans and intersex women.

The immersion runs from 4 to 29 January 2027, with 80 hours of activities under the guidance of researchers. Participants receive a grant of 300 reais, and those taking part remotely also receive a kit to carry out the experiments at home.
